Cooking and Making Chana Dal Masala Recipe - Delicious Dish
Here's a recipe for Chana Dal Masala:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)
- 4 cups water
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
1. Rinse the chana dal thoroughly in cold water and soak it in 2 cups of water for at least 1 hour.
2. Drain the water and add the dal to a pressure cooker along with 2 cups of fresh water. Cook on high heat for 3-4 whistles, then reduce the heat to low and cook for another 10 minutes.
3. Allow the pressure to release naturally and then open the cooker. Mash the dal slightly with a spoon or a masher and set it aside.
4. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and allow them to splutter.
5. Add finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
6. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute or until the raw smell goes away.
7. Add chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
8. Add the cooked chana dal to the pan and mix well. Add garam masala and mix again.
9. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.
10. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
Note: If you don't have a pressure cooker, you can cook the chana dal in a regular pot. Soak the dal for at least 2 hours and then cook it in a pot with 4 cups of water. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1-1.5 hours or until the dal is fully cooked and tender.
