How to Make Delicious Homemade Chicken Dum Biryani - Biryani Recipe
Biryani is a delicious South Asian dish made with fragrant basmati rice, spices, and meat or vegetables. Here's a recipe to make a basic chicken biryani:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups basmati rice, rinsed and soaked in water for 30 minutes
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 medium-sized onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2-3 bay leaves
- 4-5 green cardamom pods
- 1-2 cinnamon sticks
- 3-4 cloves
- Salt, to taste
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil or ghee
- 2-3 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro and mint leaves
- Fried onions, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
1. In a large pot, bring about 6 cups of water to a boil. Add the soaked rice and cook until it's about 70% done. Drain the rice and set it aside.
2. In a large bowl, mix the chicken with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cover the bowl and marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes.
3. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the bay leaves, green cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. Fry them for a few seconds until they start to release their aroma.
4. Add the sliced onions and fry them until they turn golden brown. Add the marinated chicken and cook until the chicken is browned on all sides and partially cooked through.
5. Layer the rice over the chicken in the pot. Sprinkle chopped cilantro and mint leaves over the rice.
6. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and cook on low heat for about 20-25 minutes or until the rice and chicken are fully cooked.
7. Once done, turn off the heat and let the biryani rest for a few minutes. Then fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot, garnished with fried onions if desired.
Enjoy your delicious homemade biryani!
